My father, Prof NVC Swamy, as everyone called him, always seemed larger than life to me. He was so multi-dimensional that it is very hard to describe him. He seemed so formidable and yet approachable, so knowledgeable and yet constantly reading and learning, a disciplinarian, a scientist and yet would follow all the Hindu cultural practices that seemed unscientific, a lover of music of all kinds (Classical Indian, Classical western, movie songs, light music, folk music…). He was passionate about all of these things and dedicated himself to his profession and personal improvement. In spite of having retired as the Director of IIT Madras and still being at the peak of his career, he decided to step back from the technical academic field to pursue a second career in Yoga studies. This ability to pivot is a most remarkable quality. Not only did he reconstruct his career in a completely new direction, but he also excelled in his second career too! He was largely instrumental in enabling SVYASA to become the unique University that it is now. His courses were much sought after, and his students loved and appreciated him. When he passed away due to severe diabetes-related complications, as a daughter, I mourned the loss of a father. But as an ardent student of Yoga myself, I knew how precious his work was. His videos and audio lectures carry many years of his passionate and single-minded pursuit of the highest knowledge combined with his lifelong skill as an academic, educator, and educationist. These lectures combined the best of his deep experiential wisdom of Vedic knowledge and his sharp, analytical, scientific temperament – a special combination that very few people possess. This website was hence created to honor Prof Swamy, my father, and also to preserve some of his lecture recordings and to make them available to as wide an audience of Yoga students as possible, including future generations who wish to learn from one of the finest teachers of both Scientific and Vedic knowledge systems. It is also my own humble offering to the same tradition that inspired my father as it has inspired millions of people before him – Sanatana Dharma – or as Swami Vivekananda himself called it – the Mother of all Religions.
– Savitha Nanjangud (Prof. NVC Swamy’s daughter)
